I just broke my toe to. I went to emergency because it was swelling fast.they put ice on my toe then I went for x rays to verify it was broken.usually you can't bend the toe,but I could bend it.the result was still broken...right in the middle of my toe. The dr told me that nothing can be done, but he did tape my baby toe to my other toe for support and this will help the toe heal properly. Everytime I take a bath or shower I change the surgical tape.I also have to put some gauze in between the toes so they won;t rub together. 4 to 6 weeks to heal. And all my toes and foot are black and blue.I am walking on the side of my foot right now.I find the cane to be in the way especially when I want to shop,so that is why I don't use it.

Broken toes or fingers (also known as fractures) can happen when a severe blow or concussion is experienced. They definitely need medical attention or they may heal crooked, stiff or with other problems such as persisting pain.

A hospital will have a doctor who will examine the injury and have an X-ray taken and the nature of injury determined. The doctor may then straighten a broken toe, this after applying local anesthetic to relieve pain and numb sensation. The injured toe is then splinted by being taped to the toe immediately next to it. A pad taped to the foot may also be used. For a finger a metal splint may be used. The doctor may employ ice to alleviate swelling, and may keep the foot elevated. The doctor may even recommend certain exercises to prevent stiffness. Sometimes the toe may turn blue and this may be due to circulation in which case it can be drained.

I just recently broke the toe next to my big toe, and boy did it hurt! I went to a doctor to have
x-rays done, and he found out that I had a fractured toe. The doctor "buddy-taped" the toe to the one next to it, and he gave me a post-operation boot to make walking more comfortable... Hope this helps! Get well soon! :)

I broke my little toe a few days ago. I went to the hospital and had an x-ray to confirm that I had indeed fractured it. The doctor buddy taped my baby toe to my fourth toe. He put gauze in between the two toes for sweat absorption and to prevent the toes from rubbing together, prior to taping it. He advised me to keep the toes taped together for 4 weeks, and to avoid cardio activity that might cause strain on the toe, as it could delay healing.

I would just go and get the xray done anyways, because it could be a lot worse than you think.  But when I was pregnant and the baby was on my sciatic nerve I fell down the stairs and broke two of my toes in my left foot.  There is no cast that could be put on they would put on a ace bandage though and just elevate the foot and use a lot of ice for the black and blue.  It would take at least 6 to 8 weeks for the healing to be done and I also had to use crutches to get around.  I do feel bad for you because it does hurt a lot and sometimes tylenol and ibrueprophen does not really take the pain away either.  Please let me know later on how you are doing.

You can try taping your last 2 toes together, that way the one toe supports the other while healing. Plus use an ace bandage, elevate the foot and ice for 48 hours, on 20 minutes at a time only, then after 48 hours you can use heat.

Yeah same lol , she wont belive me, I said it hurt and I can't walk on it but she said its fine , they can't do anything to it, and I said yes they can it in a splint thing or whatever, because ive done this before and I let it heal for about 10 months and it was sort of ok, but recently on the same toe in the same place, I was running a race and it started hurting again, so I think I should have had the doctor straighten it, because I'm sure that it healed crooked, so I hope this helped you, and I'm just saying I think should get it looked at straight away instead of waiting 10 months and doing it again, thnx

I broke the little toe on my left foot 2 weeks ago. It is buddy taped and the doctor said I could buy tight fitting shoes. I read an answer where a person said wear loose fitting shoes. I don't agree with that. I've been having severe pain all over my foot with this broken toe. I went back in for pain meds. He said, "your walking on a broken bone and every time you do, your entire foot is screaming". He recommended that I wear a splint that keeps the foot immobilized. So I recommend; 1. Have it buddy taped, 2. If you can stay off your foot or get a splint to keep it immobilized, 3. Elevate your foot higher than your heart, 4. Use ice packs to numb it, 5. Take a strong pain reliever.

If the toe heals wrong and crowds the one next to it then there is probably not enough air space between them. You will have to pay extra attention to keep it clean to avoid hygiene problems that could lead to microorganisms taking hold. I would see a Dr. Immediately and try to have him tape or splint it after straightening it- if he can. Otherwise put some padding between the toes to keep them somewhat separated.

I broke my greater toe, I unfortunately require surgery ( involves putting a pin through where a piece of bone has broken off ) to fix it all back together, it hurts like hell even though the toe is completely numb to touch!

My partner stepped on my left little toe in his steel toe capped work boots, pain was unbelievable. Next morning woke to find couldnt apply any pressure to it, bruised and swollen. Its now been been five days, bruising gone down, still very very swollen and still not able to walk on it. Am having to walk inwards now which is causing my heel to ache. Went to local a and e and they were closed. How long does te pain last for. The major pain seems to be right deep inside underneath little toe. Can't even separate the two toes to dry in between them after shower. Is it worth going to hospital or will it heal on its own. Any advice greatly received. Thanks in advance x

Buddy tape it to the next toe for 4-6 weeks and that's it. Stay off it and elevate.

I broke my toe this morning but my husband and his friend thought I just sprang it but now its been several hours later, the pain hasn't subsided at all, the swelling as more than doubled even through out my foot, and its black and blue. I just taped it to the other toe and trying some ice and ibuprofen. I hope it help but would really appreciate any more tips. I heard if you soak it in epson salt then that will help, is that true? Hope to hear some tips soon :-)

I've just fractured my little toe for the 2nd time in 3 months (I broke it first).  All they do is strap your toe to the next one.
