Emphysema is one of the type of COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in which air sacs or alveoli are damaged, so exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide is impaired. Smoking is major cause of this condition. Prognosis of sever emphysema is poor because lungs can not be reversed once damaged. Quality of life can be improved with the help of medicines and preventive measures like avoiding cigarettes.
