You don't need to "starve" yourself. I have been overweight for most of my life, topping out at 226 lbs about 4 years ago. I am also 5'5" tall. I finally decided that I was ready to get off some weight and keep it off. I chose to follow the basic guidelines of the Atkins diet, where you increase your protein intake and decrease your carbohydrate intake. I didn't use a book or anything, I just kept up with my carbohydrate intake.

The first 2 weeks, you need to limit your carb intake to 20 grams per day, maximum. If you aren't familiar with carbs, you basically need to avoid anything white: Bread, sugar, pasta, potatoes, crackers, etc. You can read food labels to check the carb count in any food that is labeled. I lost 7 lbs in the first week, then anywhere from 1 - 4 lbs per week after that. In about 8 months, I was down to 162 lbs. I have kept most of it off with the exception of 5 -7 lbs occasionally,in which case I always get it back off.

I'm going back on the diet myself after Christmas so I can get down to about your current weight. Good luck with whatever you decide, but make sure you're doing it for the right reasons; not  just because you want to be thinner because you think you'll be more attractive if you're skinny.  Being healthy physically AND mentally is what's important. True beauty comes from within.

Okay but I'll still answer that its bad for you and it won't work. Now the proof to tell you that my statements are true is that okay you can starve to get slim .....so why don't you starve for 3 weaks?  How about that  Hun?"

Obviously you can't stay without eating something for 3 weeks, and even if u starve for 3 weeks , you won't look slim  you'll look weak dull and not at all nice -  so forget starving, it will serve you no good and I don't think if  you starve even for 3 weaks still can't lose weight !

So just do exercise and maintain a diet. Eat proper and don't eat a lot .....and you'll see yourself slim!

I'm sorry but that just doesn't work for me,I've tried dieting way too many times and I've failed every time,I either eat and have no control over it or I don't eat at all,I'm currently working on that but for now I need to starve

I know but hey I've been feeling so much better lately, I started eating healthy and eliminated all that unhealthy junk and processed food from my diet and I started exercising. I think once you start focusing on health more than looking good you will truly be happy and you'll lose the weight. It's not exactly the fastest way but being happy and on your way to a beautiful, healthy body beats being miserable and skinny any day :)

I really understand how you feel.  Once you make a decision to get some weight off, you want to do it "now", look in the mirror and see the slimmer you.

Whilst my suggestion may not be the healthiest solution in the world, it does work quickly and ultimately you feel so good that you eat lots of the right stuff anyway.

If you're anything like me, one of your big downfalls will be candy and chocolate.  So this is what I did, and I lost 35lb in less than 10 weeks.  I ate a breakfast of 1oz of any cereal with skimmed milk (weigh it - no more than 1oz), with a cup of tea or coffee.  Mid morning a cup of tea or coffee.  Lunchtime consisted of anything up to a maximum of 250 cals (either a bowl of porridge with a banana, 2oz cereal, or rice cakes with any spread, carrot sticks, fruit and yogurt)  Evening meal is a can of soup with one third water added to make you feel fuller.  The soup was a maximum of 200 calories (check the label) + added sliced mushrooms, or carrots + 1 slice bread.  Alternatively, fish or chicken with a green salad and tomatoes and peppers. The rest of the calories for the day (up to 1000 allowed) was spent on candy or chocolate. Put a chocolate bar in the freezer - it takes much longer to eat and you feel as if you've had a lot.

Take a multi vitamin every day + a ginseng/ginkgo biloba supplement and you will feel great and take the weight off fast.

Hi Denise - I really liked your answer. I too love chocolate and candy and sometimes feel I could just eat that and nothing else! What a good tip about the choc in the freezer - I'll try that!

Hi Kathryn, hope it works for you. It takes much longer to get through a frozen bar of chocolate and consequently feels like you've had more than you've actually had.
I don't know about anyone else, but I can't live without my chocolate treat! 😄

Hello,

It sounds like you may be battling with an eating disorder that you should consider seeking treatment for. The problem with situations where you either starve or binge eat is that they usually do arise from an undercurrent of disorder.

Tackling the cause over the symptom is the best solution simply because once you have a healthy relationship with food, you will be able to 'diet' safely, i.e lose weight and you won't constantly be thinking about food.

This is the long term solution, but as for the short-term solution, well the truth is that starving yourself really WON'T work. Even if you do lose weight, you will gain it straight back as soon as you eat (you have to eat at some point) because your metabolism will have drastically slowed down and therefore you could return to your original size or perhaps even bigger.

Further, if you starve yourself, your body will quite literally go into starvation mode, meaning it will kick in an impulse for you to 'binge' to compensate for the lack of nutrition which is very, very difficult to fight because your body is trying to survive. You will also get sick, potentially beyond repair, with illnesses that could be life long and fatal, that is certainly something worth thinking about.

Consider eating right and exercising a long with seeking professional help. Not necessarily just for the mental aspect, but also professional weight loss advice. This is not something you should have to face alone.

I hope this helps.

Go on a low carbohydrate diet and then gradually introduce wholegrain carbohydrates into the diet again at a controlled amount.  Or go on the 5:2 diet. Where you eat a healthy diet for 5 days and then for 2 days you cut your calorie intake to 500 calories for only 2 days of that week - quite a few celebrities swear by  it and you will not suffer any problems with metabolism as you are only eating a very low calorie intake for two days and eating healthily for the 5 days.

I did a few years ago. I mean it works wonders it really does. I lost 12 pounds in 10 days which I know is not normal. If you want to loose weight fast it's a good thing but it's not good for you at all. I had to fit in a graduation dress 2 weeks before the prom and I didn't know what else to do. It really works but like I said, I know someone who had a heart-attack while on the diet and ended up dying. I would not rec commend it for that fact. Also, after I got off of the diet I gained it all back. Even though I lost 10 pounds, I probably gained back 15 along with the 10 after. It's a good diet if you just need it for something quick. But I would not recommend it because of the health issues, and you gain more back than you lost to begin with. I suggest you Atkins diet foods through this you get more results about what can you eat on the Atkins diet .
