It is SUPPOSED to be all Electronic by now. There are a few stragglers whom still have paper charts, BUT the Government has been pushing "Meaningful Use" to all Healthcare facilities so that they could create their own EMR's or EMH's - Electronic Medical Records - Electronic Medical History.
This allows them in the future to be joined and share information more easily should a patient from one side of the country need to go to the emergency room on the other side of the country. This was all part of HIPAA.
