This swim team I plan on joining soon has practice everyday. I have my period, so I'm worried that it'll come. I don't think I can use tampons, because My mom thinks they're "dangerous" so I've never used them. What do I do?

One or two or three for the swim 🏊meet will definitely not hurt or harm you and it's not dangerous. Unless you're allergic to the rayon/cotton blend or whatever the tampon may be made of. I repeat You're not in any danger whatsoever and using a couple of them for  the swim 🏊meet will not harm you.

Be sure to get your mom's approval.

I'm assuming your mother might be (over)concerned about the possibly of "toxic shock syndrome."

You might ask her why she is so concerned about tampons and then go from there.

Do you have a female coach?  If so, I would talk to her and ask her what other girls do .. Since they all have to deal with this.

As long as you change tampons regularly, you're very safe to use them.  Not sure how old you are .. But you and your Mom and the coach need to talk about this.  Maybe even ask your doctor to give his or her advice on their safety.

Millions of females use tampons, the danger comes when they're not changed frequently.  Ask your coach to talk to your mother, every other girl on your swim team has the same problem.

I would not suggest going in the water with a sanitary pad, I can only think that would result in a soggy unhygienic mess.
