There are numerous lymph nodes within the human body. Some, like those around the neck, behind the collar bone, or clavicle, underneath the arms, and around the groins, are close to the skin and enlargements can be easily detected by touch. On occasion, they can be detected near elbows, although this is quite rare,

  • Low-Lying Lymph Nodes
Other lymph nodes, like those deep inside the chest, the abdomen and the pelvis area, are usually harder to detect, unless they are very large.

  • Lipomas
Not every lump detected is necessarily a lymph node. How a lump feels, its perceived consistency and its location all help to decide whether a lump is a lymph node or not. These lumps could be lipomas, a common reason for lumps caused by over growth of fatty tissue. Generally harmless, if unsightly, they usually feel quite soft, are sometimes mobile or flat and painless.

  • Cysts
Another possible cause for the lumps could be cysts, although this is far less common. They are small fluid collections beneath the skin. Usually quite soft, they may become hard if the fluid within them is under pressure. They can be fairly easily removed by a doctor.

  • Cancer Nodules
If the lumps are hard, immobile, and constantly growing, there may be a chance that they are cancer nodules, especially if the skin overlying them is red. They may need to be removed and biopsied, depending on the situation.

  • Seek Medical Advice
Whatever the lumps feel like, the best thing to do is to go and see a doctor. Only a professional can give a definitive answer as to what these lumps are and what to do about them. Considering the possible risks, the sooner proper medical advice is sought, the better, if for no other reason than peace of mind.

I also have a good size lump just above my elbow, I went to two different doctors and they both said it was a fatty tumor but not to worry unless it got bigger. It has no pain, and I'm not overweight , so I was concerned at first. I have had this for at least six years with no problem.
