There are hundreds of rumours that say that it is possible for a person to make himself or herself shorter in height. These vary from the rather patronising 'stand in a hole' to 'drinking tea with no sugar'. People will try all sorts of things to change their appearance but physically it is not possible to shorten yourself. However it is possible to appear shorter.
While the tape measure may still say you are the same height, there are ways to make yourself look shorter in certain circumstances. When going on a night out with friends, avoid heels. Many of your friends will probably opt for very high heels with wobbly ankles so stick to flats. Flat shoes do not need to lack style, comfort or support. There is a wide range of flat shoes available that will look as elegant and trendy as the tallest stilettos.
Instead or as well as flatter shoes, try dressing in visually shortening clothes. Avoid wearing long dresses, monochromatic outfits or vertical stripes. These are all fashion tips taken by individuals who want to make themselves look taller.
To look shorter, wear:
- cropped jackets,
- horizontal stripes,
- short skirts,
- Capri pants,
- thick belts or block,
- brightly coloured tops with dark bottoms.
Instead, try standing at a lower level to people who you are talking to or surround yourself with taller people. The best alternative is to simply embrace your height. Many individuals who consider themselves as 'average' or 'normal' height would love to be taller.
