I agree with the person on how colic happens and that sometimes it can't be prevented but when it does its nice to have a product on hand to get rid of it rather than the large vet bill. We use a product called white lightening, a all natural product by Frank Lampley. A teaspoon of this mixed with a little water and fed to the horse or donkey every 30 minutes until the symptoms go away and then one more just for good measure works wonders.

I'm from the old school of horsemanship so my answer may too broad or simple for some folks. I spent several hours walking my horse in the middle of the night, when I was young, waiting for the vet to come help my best friend. Colic can be prevented by learning what causes it and the preventing the causes from happening. Like too much fresh green grass, or too much sweet feed immediately before or after a hard workout, or your little friend getting loose when your not home and he/she gets into the grain and really pigs out. These things can cause much more than just a belly ache- they can cause colic bad enough to flip the intestines and require surgery for you friend to survive. The best prevention is education.
