Dog feces can be incredibly dangerous to humans, which is why it's always recommended that you clean up after your dog whenever it does 'its business'.

How harmful is dog feces?
Leaving dog poo lying around is something I wouldn't recommend.

Dog feces is full of harmful bacteria that could cause a human to become seriously ill - and potential illnesses include:

  • E. Coli
  • Salmonella
  • Giardia
Dog poo often contains roundworms, flatworms and hookworms, all of which can infect humans.

A worm infection is notoriously unpleasant - and they can even lead to brain damage and blindness in humans!

Even if your dog is defecating outside in your back yard, there's a good chance that fecal matter is being passed on to you and your home via your canine companion. That's why hygiene and hand-washing is imperative for all dog owners!

The dangers of dog poo
Most disease control and prevention authorities regard dog feces to be as toxic as industrial chemical waste.

The fact that dog poo is teeming with parasites and bacteria means that having a dog around requires extra attention to cleanliness.

There are various anti-septic products available which can help make the home environment safe for dog owners.

The following websites are a good source of information regarding the specific health threats that dog poo poses:
