Kidneys do remove wastes from the body, but they do not remove any more water than they can help removing. Theu concentrate what is called the filtrate, that which is eliminated, by removing water, proteins, nutrients and anything else reclaimable.

The basic thing kidneys remove from the body is nitrogenous waste.
