What I would say to a 16 year old who is thinking of getting pregnant...

Your life as you know it ceases to exist. You are now morally and legally responsible for a human life for the next 18 years. No more fun trips with friends anytime you want. Finishing high school, not to mention college, now has a huge obstacle in the way. You will find it hard to earn enough money to pay both your way and that of your child. Therefore, you will burden someone else with providing for you and your child. If you are married, at least you will have some legal protections for your child. But young partners have a bad track record for staying in a committed relationship, so you need to prepare for being a single parent. And please, do NOT simply say you will rely on government assistance, because you are saddling ME, through my taxes, with paying for YOUR decision to get pregnant. And nowadays, getting pregnant isn't an accident. Every person should know by now what causes pregnancy and how to avoid it.

Too young to take on the responsibility of raising a child.

Most teen mothers never graduate high school. That seriously hinders their chance to financially care for the child. Teen years is when people learn how to interact socially on their own terms. By having a baby you will be left out of many if not most social events, leaving the mother's social growth stunted. While this doesn't happen to every teen mother, it certainly makes becoming more than that all the more difficult.

I gave 5 kids (youngest now 20) that I adore. That said, having a child at 16 is a bad idea at every level. Most specifically for the baby.
