People -- men or women -- cover a wide variety of body shapes (mine goes pear-shaped if I don't keep an eye on my diet) but women are, basically, curvier than men.

It is NOT disrespectful to say so.

Many young girls get hooked on the skinny beanpoles featured in fashion magazines (it got so bad some years ago that they were promoting scarecrows under "heroin chic") and don't realise that full bodies are just fine. So they spending their time fretting and dieting, trying to create a body that looks like the air-brushed models in the fashion magazines.

Your mother is perfectly correct in saying that women are supposed to have curves. Be confident enough to enjoy your body, but try not to go over the top in either direction.

To be honest i don't like the tone of the statement. Your mother is a woman and personally i feel she disrespecting the nature of women.

"Woman suppose to have curves" so this is how woman is suppose to be, means it's too important and if it's too important means woman's worth is by her physical shape ? And so, if someone not be the way they "suppose" to be , means there's something wrong with them ?

No,  the whole thing is nonsense. It's wrong and i disagree.

Woman is a human being. A human female. Proposing females a "must" to have curves is just a impolite and immature act.

There's no label and mark for women.  There's no "must" in a physical status of a women. Humans born with different sizes and shapes included women. Each woman "suppose" to be herself. Just and only.

There's no "Ideal" status of how the "Prefect curvy" woman must look like. These ideals is a make up strategy by bunch of losers and small minded people.

Plus, every women has their own particular curves. It's all up to individual outlooks and definition of "Curve"

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Well, I'm curvy and I like me just fine! Some women are lacking in the "curvy" area and that's just fine for them!

Yes women have curves. It is just that every woman has their curves in different places and to varying degrees.

Well standards of beauty are pretty subjective for individual men, but here's two sites that might be of interest to you:

Tom, that was a very clever video in the first link. I can't say I was too keen on either the Italian Renaissance or Victorian England, but both of those were better than the Twiggy types of the 60s and later. :)

Yes. I still shake my head when I think of Twiggy.

Personally, I like a bit of "cushioning"---I'll take a recliner over a metal chair any day.
