I heard that if you exhale while exerting pressure on your left leg/foot while running....it helps.
I've had my share of running injuries, including shin splints. If it happens during a race I've always managed to finish. THEN I'd worry about treatment.
If I was I runner ( I am not ) I'd act like a soccer player and fall to the ground and moan in pain until I got loads of media attention then I'd sign a deal with Nike and run again.. And not fall. I WOULD BE RICH AS ' Nike money :) Nike might not be a thing anymore though .. But I'd just do it ;)
To be honest, dealing with it it's up to you, if you think that you can carry yourself out then continue to the finish line. But the ideal is as fast as you feel such pain and you know it's shin splint, you have to stop.
Because Shin Splint is a very serious injury and it has two cases. One is moderate and one is too dangerous. In both the healing time is too slow and you have to take care of so many details to heal up. And if you push yourself while you know you have this and the pain is swelling up then you have to stop before you get cracks on your shin bone.
The symptoms would be: Pain in one or both legs, sharp aching pain in front of the shin, pain when you push your shin, pain that get worse during and after the run/exercise, Tenderness, aching from below the knee to the ankle, pain along the inner part of the leg, soreness, moderate swelling in the lower leg, weakness of the legs, and pain when while you're not using your legs and they are steady with none pressure.
Make sure you have shin splint and then take care of it before it hurts you. Because also there's a familiar injury who is connected to Shin Splint but it's a complete different case of injury.
