I need to get a couple of crowns for my upper teeth and some cavities filled. I was given a choice : An upper denture or have the crowns done. Anyone have any experience with this?

Tiger Paws has an excellent answer😆. I have not, I had 3 cavities 35 yrs ago and no dental work ever.

Dear Rooster,

Here is one consideration...I don't think you are able to chew as well with dentures...

The investment to keep your own teeth going can be huge, but the payback is that chewing well is very important to your health, as well as comfort.

So unless there is something different now, I would say that if you can swing it - go for the crowns/fillings. One caveat, however...make sure you really have confidence in your dentist.

I ran into a dentist once who did not really know what she was doing...and problems with the gum around that crown ever since then (1998).

Thank you, that helped me make up my mind.

Also, while maintenance on crowns is no different than teeth, dentures require constant work. Look at all the commercials for denture cleaners, odor control, cushions, bonding goop.
