Yes it does. Any movement you make burns calories. With that said walking is one of the best ways to burn calories. It is low impact and doe not need any special equipment, though I would suggest you get the best shoes you can afford.

Any activity 'burns calories' .. Your heart beating burns calories, your lungs expanding and contracting burns calories, brain activity burns calories .. Walking, is just a form of burning calories at a much higher rate than the afformentioned.

walking burns about 65 to 85 calories every 15 minutes depending on how fast you walk.

jogging burns a bit more from 120 to 150 every 15 minutes depending on how fast and consistent you are.

Sure, but you'll need to walk quickly and cut back your food intake.

In 2012 I lost 50 lbs in 6 months by walking 6 or 8 km every day. Unfortunatley I now have a medical condition that stops me walking but I still hobble 4 or 5 km a day. The weight is starting to go back on.

Any continuous motion burns calories. If you're trying to lose weight, which I assume you are, walking will only get rid of fat in certain areas.
