The advantages of altitude training include increased endurance, speed, recovery and strength. Basically the body adapts to low oxygen quantities at higher altitudes. The disadvantages include altitude sickness, and scientists argue that an athlete loses his training advantages from altitude training after 2 or 3 days when he comes back to sea level.
