Vicodin, otherwise known as Hydrocodone, takes a different time to affect each individual but should begin to work any time from 10 to 45 minutes after taking it. Any longer and it probably will not work as a painkiller for you.

  • What is Vicodin?
Vicodin is an opiate compound. It is a painkiller derived from Codeine and Thebaine. It is taken in a caplet (solidified powder tablet) form or as a powder in a capsule. It is usually compounded with Paracetamol to avoid addiction and recreational usage.

  • How do you get hold of Vicodin?
Vicodin is a prescription drug. It is not for recreational purposes, but for pain relief, getting rid of a cough or diarrhea relief. A doctor or physician will, after consultation, be able to authorize access to Vicodin from a pharmacist.

  • Are there any benefits or dangers?
The primary benefit is pain relief, but there are many negative side effects when taking Hydrocodone. Itching is a common side effect, as are rashes, but it can also cause problems with dizziness, lightheadedness and nausea. Drowsiness and excess or unnecessary sweating can occur.

More severe adverse reactions can cause vomiting and the worst cases can result in hospital admission. If at any point you feel unwell as a result of the medication you should seek medical help.

There are minor side effects that can arise that are reasonably safe. A change in mood can occur, or fatigue, and even a degree of apprehension or anxiety. These should be monitored but as long as they are tolerable they are not cause for concern.

Vicodin reaches peak plasma levels between 45min and 1 hour and 15 min. The effects really depend on dosage and how much tolerance you have. Some small (and non-tolerant) women get high on a single pill. However, most males would have to take 3-4 to get truely high. This can cause nausea, so some people take Benadryl with them to prevent nausea. People with opiate tolerances, however, may have to take dozens and dozens to get high. This can be very damaging to your liver. Always exercise caution when using drugs, and start slow. Note: I am not advocating use of prescriptions in any way except the manner prescribed by the doctor.

From my own personal experiences I say it takes about 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the pill.
