Before reading this article it is important to understand the following terms corticosteroid, as it is used throughout. A corticosteroid is a class of steroid hormones that are produced by the body. They are normally produced to lessen responses to: Stress, immune system actions as well as regulating inflammation, metabolism, catabolism and blood electrolyte levels and behaviors.

Triamcinolone Acetonide is a synthetic corticosteroid. However, it is a more potent type of triamcinolone, being about 8 times more effective as prednisone. It normally exists as a cream and is primarily used as a topical treatment to lessen the side effects and symptoms of conditions such as eczema, misc rashes, and other skin problems.
Even though the name does not include the word corticosteroid. It is in essence a strong corticosteroid. The strength is determined by the prescription and by the form of delivery. Your Doctor and pharmacist should be able to assist you with questions specific to your condition and prescription.

Side effects include sore throat, nosebleeds, increased coughing, headache, and runny nose. White patches in the throat or nose indicate a serious side effect. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itch, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. Also note that in women a side effect can be a prolonged menstrual cycle. In clinical tests very few patients suffered side effects, for example the highest percentage side effect was 5% of subjects have a sore throat. The maximum dosage for both adults and children (age 6-12) is 220 micrograms per day.

Triamcinolone acetonide is also used in veterinary medicine as an ingredient in topical ointments. A series of injectsions with triamcinolone acetonide or another corticosteroid may reduce keloid size and irritation.
