Many people tend to exceed the amount of potassium intake which can be dangerous depending on the person's health. People with kidney problems who are undergoing dialysis are advised by doctors to have control over the potassium intake because the excretion of potassium is controlled by our kidneys.

Overdose of potassium usually takes place when people end up taking too many potassium supplements and they end up in getting dehydrated. It is very important to take the prescribed amount and it would be good if the supplement is taken with some liquid.

If a person has taken an over dose of potassium he will exhibit many symptoms such as mental disorders, deafness, scratchiness of limbs, tiredness and weakness, low blood pressure and heart beat disorders. Such people can even end up in coma and can also lead to a heart attack due to an extreme drop in the blood pressure. Many people even experience passing bloody stools and difficulties in breathing.

People with such symptoms can end up being dead so they should be immediately taken to a doctor for treatment other wise things can become very critical. However if medical assistance is not available and the condition of the person is worsening then the best remedy is to give the patient a glass of water with half teaspoon of salt and a quarter teaspoon of bicarbonate soda with a little honey.

My friend went to the hospital with symptoms of numbness and confusion. She was tested and found to have low potassium. They gave her one bag of potassium and she experienced sever cramping and pain. She had to undergo testing for heart related issues for several days before she was released.

A Potassium overdose can be fatal!!! If you ingest too much Potassium... You will begin to experience fatigue, stomach cramps, fever, pain all over body, diarrhea and severe dehydration. You will begin to experience organ failure starting with your liver and kidneys. If medical attention is not received immediately... Permanent damage to your organs is almost definite and if to far gone a person can die!!!

I have a bottle of Potassium Capsules (99 milligram size) and there are no overdose warnings on the bottle label. I wish they put some precautionary warning on the label though. All it says is to take 1 daily, or as directed.
