Senna pills are laxatives and they are either sold or their own as individual Senna pills or as an ingredient with other laxative products. They generally work by irritating the lower gastrointestinal tract which leads to the bowel contracting, and pushing out the faeces.

Usually results appear within twelve hours of taking the laxative and it can often soften the faeces which makes it a lot easier to pass. Senna pills are usually safe to take whilst you are pregnant and after just giving birth, as even though a small amount of the product is absorbed into the breast milk, the newborn is generally unaffected. The only people who should not take these pills are children under the age of five, due to the fact that they can develop a skin rash.

Overall Senna pills are really good for relieving constipation; however they should not be used for more than seven days. If you are unsure as to when to take these tablets or if they are right for you, you should consult your doctor.
