Yes! This has just happened to me and the ovary had to be removed. Granted, it was more like an infected cyst/s within the ovary (I have endometriosis) but it amounts to the same thing. I was very, very sick with high fevers and an infection count of almost 4oo. It took a while for the doctors to figure out what was going on but now that it's out I feel so much better.
