- Methamphetamine stimulates the central nervous system by increasing the level of the chemical dopamine in the brain.
- Dopamine is responsible for feelings of reward, motivation, pleasure and in large doses - euphoria.
- The drug can be detected in a standard urine screening up to four days after it was last used. It is one of ten substances specifically tested for in a ten panel test.
- Meth is present within the blood for three days after it was taken.
- It can be detected in saliva for a similar amount of time as the two other methods.
- Hair follicle testing is only normally used when a long-term drug history is needed. This method can find meth in the system for any period of time up to about three months after it was consumed.
