No more than 85_grams of carbohydrates per day, no nutritive sugars, high fiber and high protein. The amt. Of protein you take in may tend to curb your appetite. Then you need to exercise at least 1 hour per day. You will need to eat enough fat to jump start the metabolic processes that will allow to burn the unwanted or excess fat.
1lb of just fat is 3500calories
Eat less, move more.
Ive lost 70lbs in 6 months
At 5'8 and 280 pounds, you will be able to see a lot of weight loss in your first few weeks if you follow a proper diet/exercise regime.
The reason being that the 'normal' weight for someone 5'8 is 125-158lb, so it would be much easier for you to sustain a larger caloric deficit.
You see, in order to maintain your current weight, you'd need to take in bodweight x 15 calories/day.
So: 280 x 15 = 4,200 calories/day.
Now as a guy, the lowest amount of calories you should be eating a day is 1,500 calories...as a girl it is 1,200.
I'm guessing you're a guy based on your avatar, so if you ate 1,500 calories, you'd be at a 2,700 calorie deficit each day.
To lose 1 pound, you need to burn 3,500 calories...so simply by eating 1,500 calories, you're close to burning 1 pound/day as it is.
If you added exercise, you could burn an additional 500 calories per hour.
So assuming you did 1 hour on an elliptical each day, you COULD burn 3,200 calories/day...
This would allow you to burn 22,400 calories/week which is 6.4 pounds/week.
Keep in mind the first week you're likely to lose an additional 4-5 pounds of water weight as well.
