What Is The Normal Testosterone Level In A 38 Years Old Male?

The range for "normal" testosterone levels is very large/wide because it is covering males between the age of 14-90+. The "normal" range is 249-1149 for total testosterone, but where a male falls in that range and what is "normal" for him depends on his age. For men between the ages of 36-40, the normal, healthy total testosterone level is 650-700, but at 38, as long as you aren't falling below 600, you should be fine. Some docs will tell you to look at your "free" testosterone where sex drive is concerned, which is true, but if your total testosterone is falling below where your normal range is, then your body will dip into the free testosterone for things like energy levels, metabolism, muscle health, joint health/function, heart health, mood, etc. These are all of the things that testosterone is responsible for, in addition to sex drive and erectile function. The idea is really to have BOTH levels where they should be, but if you are going to put more weight on either, look at your total testosterone. This is truly what governs everything, and leaves the rest open and available for sex drive and erectile function.

Could be that the test is wrong. But it could be that you suffer from depression (as you stated)--which could explain the low energy and loss of desire in things. And I'm going to guess you probably have some level of pain which could contribute to the depression. I have chronic pain and it can just leach everything good out of every day when it's at it's worst.
Ask your dr to do the test again just to verify. And if the test comes back in the normal range again, then it might be a good idea to explore some options regarding your depression, whether therapy, medication or a combination of both.
Good luck. I hope you feel better soon. And sometimes it helps to just come online where you can ask and answer questions and feel useful. I know it does for me sometimes. It distracts me if nothing else.

I would call your doctor and ask what your levels were and what the normal range is.  If you can at least get what your levels were you can even call the lab at your local hospital and they can look into what the normal range is for you.  You might be under a normal range but maybe it is the lower part of the normal range.  However, they should be able to help you with this.  Depression has a lot to do with things.  I would make sure you get checked out if you haven't already and maybe get on a medication for it.  If you already have and it is not working they may need to up it or change your medication.  Good luck with this and take care.

A normal range for you and all men is between 140pg and 350pg, however this is free test.  a healthy range is considered between 200pg and 350pg, under 200pg would be in the non healthy or andropause range.  most dotors who know little about low testerone check the total testerone levels.  the problem is total test. Is the testerone that is bound to a protein molecule and is totally inactive.  get with a doctor who knows the difference and get your levels in the 200pg to 350 range.  also make sure they give you either hcg or clomiphin to keep your testicle making its own naturally.

According to Qwest diagnostics, the normal range is not as cited above, it is:

Total Testosterone:  250-1100 ng/dL
Free Testosterone:  35-115pg/mL
