It could be not anything more than a simple bladder or kidney infection but, it safer to go get checked just in case. Highly suggest he cut down on caffeine intake. Drink more water and cranberry juice. Sit in a warm tub to help with the discomfort. But, definitely get it checked because it could become more painful
He may have a urinary tract infection or a kidney stone. If he takes a hot bath or shower and the pain moves to his back and becomes more intense it's definately his kidneys.
