Baking soda + water for stomach aches and hydrogen peroxide for ear aches... Both work well.
Yes, I used vanilla extract for a tooth ache and it worked.
I have drank moonshine for depression...works great...
Chicken soup for a cold, clove oil for a tooth ache both remedies worked pretty well and both were made at home from scratch.
OMG hundreds of times. Earlier generations of people had health aids long before you could go to a drug store. They used roots, tree bark, grasses and all natural products. Soon the drug companies started to produce them in large quantities adding a little of this and a little of that and selling them in sores making it easier for you too get. Look at all the medicinal cures that the indians in the rain forests of South America used, and today they are still used and some considered wonder drugs. Early people had a cure for everything, some worked some didn't. OOps I just had a cup of coffee, did you know coffee beans came from high in the Andes Mountains in South America? I always wondered who was the first person to try these cures and beans an things not knowing if they'd help or kill them.
Technically we all use home remedies.most family off the shelf meds are home remedies or from plants .they have just taken the active ingredients and put them in pill form or liquid. If you don't believe it go down to your local druggist and ask.they take a powder to make a elixir. Or a pill and turn it into a powder for a capsule.aspirin, salt water gargle, hot and cold compress, bandage wrap.they even use them today and act like it is something new and miraculous(which it is since God made the plants to use).ex:milkweed,thistle,tea,honey,mint,leaches. They are now finding uses for poisonous sea animals to help cure/control pain from illnesses or accidents .where the pain medicine does not become addictive.
I have restless leg syndrome and I read that "back in the day" putting a bar of soap under the sheets near your legs would help. Of course I tried it (better than taking medication to get a good night's sleep). It didn't work at all.
This isn't just anecdotal evidence either, I believe there was a study conducted and a high percentage of people who claimed that the soap worked were merely experiencing a placebo effect. When their bed partners replaced the bar of soap with a block of wood, they still reported that they got relief from the RLS.
Gotta love the placebo effect!

Sometimes they work
I like either Tomato soup or Won ton soup.

Yes to both questions, the old tried and true, gargling with salt water for sore throat is a time proven remedy.
No, I try my Grandmothers concocted remedy and it didn't work, but I bear with it, and didn't tell her, as I don't want to spoil her mood. Instead, the normal medication makes me better
Yes I use corn starch for rashes, and I drink hot toddies with water, lemon, and honey for a sore throat. I also walk as much as possible to try to lose weight.
