Endometriosis is a common and often painful condition that effects only women. It is caused when tissue outside of the womb behaves as it it were part of the tissue lining the womb (the endometrium) or if a small part of the lining as become detached from the womb lining.

The chief symptom of endometriosis is pain in and around the pelvic area. Some women however experience little pain, even in advanced cases. Other symptoms can include:

  • Painful/heavy periods,
  • pain in the lower abdomen or lower back,
  • pain during and after sex,
  • bleeding between periods
  • infertility

Less Common Symptoms of Endometriosis

These may include: Long-term exhaustion and fatigue, discomfort when going to the toilet, bleeding from your back passage, blood in your stools, coughing blood (when the endometriosis tissue is in the lung).

How severe the symptoms are depends largely on where in your body the endometriosis is, rather than the amount of endometriosis you have. If you show any of these symptoms, please consult your physician at once to enable a proper diagnosis to be made.
