According to the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance), a person should take about 20% of his daily caloric intake from fat.
So, suppose that you take about 1800 calories every day. That means that you should take around 360 calories from fat. Now one gram of fat produces 9 calories. So, this means you are allowed to consume 40 grams (360/9) of fat each day.
Similarly, if you are on a 2200 calories diet, then the 20% of your caloric intake is 440, which is the amount of fat calories that you may take. Convert it into grams by dividing it by 9 and you get 49.
Hence, for a person who consumes 2200 calories each day, the maximum amount of fat allowed is 49 grams.
If you have a different caloric intake, now you know how to calculate your own fat intake requirements.
Hope this helps you!

The grams of fat a person should consume per day is going to depend on what kind of diet they are on...it's also going to depend on what your current weight is and if you are cutting, maintaining or bulking.

To keep things simple, you could say 25-35% of your diet should come from fat.

As far as grams, that will be somewhere between 50-85g, depending again on how many calories/day you're planning on hitting with your diet (this range is for 1,800 - 2,200 calories)

If you're on Atkins or the CKD diet, it's going to be a whole other number though.
