As part of my project I am researching 'Should First Aid be part of the school curriculum or not in order to educate people on how to act in emergency situations?' Please answer this question truthfully and share reasons for your opinions.

Yes, it should be taught in school. Gives the kids an idea of what an emergency situation is, and not be afraid, but rather act. (I too learned First Aid through the Cub Scouts)

A first aid class doesn't even scratch the surface on what needs to be done to help someone in an emergency situation. Giving someone a small amount of training and then cutting them loose to "act" is an invitation for them to do more harm then good. There is a reason there are 5 levels of certification for emergency prehospital care. If your going to make this training part of a standard curriculum it needs to go further than a first aid class. Perhaps an Emergency Care Attendant with CPR cert might be more appropriate.

If I fell and cut my arm, I would rather someone know enough to put a clean bandage (or cloth) and keep pressure on it, than have a bunch of people standing around waiting for an ambulance while I bled to death. Kids can be taught the basics. Only problem, you folks are in the US and as soon as someone tries to help, they get sued!!
