Every year, 15-20 million animals are used in testing.
Also, a good book about animal testing is...

Animal Experimentation -Cruelty or Science?-   by: Nancy Day

I did a project one time and that book was really helpful. =)

Lab mice are sacrificed to benefit both medicine and mankind. If it were not for animal testing no medicine's could either be tested or marketed for patients whom are extremely ill. The sacrifice of lab animals is well worth the cost to test medicines to ensure the medicines are both safe for human consumption and effective as medicines.

I would also add that lab animals usually mice are not pets.

I would like to suggest that you do some homework on the rather sweeping statement that 'no medicines could either be tested or marketed for patients who are extremely ill'- most medicines tested on animals are not fit for human consumption and vice versa- many medicines get pulled after patients suffer horrific side effects sometimes leading to death all because the medicine worked well on a dog or a monkey. Technology is so advanced today and is far more efficient than animal testing-but animals are big business

A lot. As much as I am against the mistreatment of animals, I look at it this way: If they are killed in a humane way it is better than inhumane. All the animals' lives that have been sacrificed because of testing and research have furthered our understanding in science and medicine a great deal which ultimately will be saving many many lives.

I think we should die because they have never really done anything to hurt us purposely and all we do is kill them, abuse them, and we don't do 1 thing to prevent it all over the world and if animals do something wrong they don't know what they are doing they are just defenceless creatures! They should be the ones who are let free! They where put here to be loyal, to serve and to love us! WHY KILL THEM AND NOT US?

We should just use clean materials! Only use the animals for medicine in certain circumstances, but don't waste the poor creatures on shampoo!
