Ever since I was 23 yrs old my right ankle has swelled, been to 5 foot dr's and tests from cardio to neo and mri's.  No conclusions, I have noticed that the swelling has totally taken over my toes...they (my toes) now look like the "michelen men" or "snausages" as my family would say.  The swelling has well gone to my knee, and lower thigh....so my right foot to thigh is larger than my left.  Sports medicine doctors can not see anything, no one can, but alls I know is that there is heat when it swells, though I feel only pain mainly when it is hot outdoors....I am now 42, lost 50 lbs and still I live with this, what the hell, if drs don't know what in the heck can I do, I work on my feet, and only the one foot has this problem???any one ????

It could be what we call dependant swelling but that usually occurs in both feet. You are retaining fluid that is for sure. Have you twisted your ankle at all? Sometimes it is the beginning of what they call a DVT (deep vein thrombosis). Watch to see if your leg starts to swell. Some people just get a swollen ankle for no reason. Either way, you need to see a Dr as soon as you can.
