One thing to remember is you cannot target a specific area of the body, especially the stomach, by exercise. Loss of weight is a balanced procedure, except with processes like liposuction, which target a specific part of the body.

If you really want hard abs, then you have to undergo a strenuous regime at the gym. However, if you simply want to trim and tone it up a little, you can follow certain steps as given below:

Perform abdominal exercises. These include sit ups and stomach crunches. Start with minimal sets and then gradually increase them as your sustainability level rises. Also, core lift exercises like front squats, dead lifts also help in stomach reduction. Also, when not exercising, try not to sit around and include maximum movement.

You trim your waist by sustaining a caloric deficit over time.

What does that mean?

Well, your body requires a certain amount of calories to maintain it's current weight (bodyweight in lbs x 15)...so if you were 150 pounds, that would be 150x15 = 2,250 calories/day.

To lose 1 pound you need to be in a deficit of 3,500 calories.  So if you ate 500 calories less than this 2,250 each day (1,750 cals/day) you would lose 1 pound each week.

Couple that with 1 hour of cardio each day (500 calories burned/h on average)..you'll burn another 1 pound a week.

This is not taking into account water weight loss in your first week and plateaus you may encounter in your weight loss, but this in general is what you can expect.

Don't go lower than 1,200 calories as a woman and 1,500 as a man (good guideline for how low you should take it safely).
