The most common medicines that could cause you to test positive for Amphetamines include Adderall, Adderall XR, Ritalin and other ADD/ADHD medications. Over the counter nasal sprays such as Vicks Inhaler and Afrin can cause you to test positive. Just the same as diet aids that contain phenylpropanolamine such as Dexatrim and Accutrim. If you are unsure about any of the ingredients that medicines may contain they speak to the pharmacist when you buy them and they will be able to advise you.

Amphetamines are stimulant drugs that have been used to fight fatigue and increase wakefulness. In 1965 they were made illegal unless they were prescribed by a Doctor. It is not uncommon though for people to test positive for amphetamines without having a Doctor’s prescription, but not all of these are taking illegal drugs. The common cold medicine Sudafed, and other substances such as NyQuil, Drixoral, and Tylenol Cold and Sinus have all been known to cause false positives. This is because they contain the active ingredient pseudoephedrine. Common nasal decongestants can also cause you to test positive.

The inclusion of this active ingredient in everyday medicines causes numerous problems for athletes who can be summoned for drug tests unexpectedly at any time. Athletes are banned from taking thousands of substances that can all contribute to enhancing their performances. If you are an athlete and are unsure about what you are allowed to take when it comes to the banned substance list, they you should contact the Athletics organisation responsible for your country, for example, UKA for the United Kingdom. They will be able to deliver the full official list to you. However if you are an athlete then the general advice that is given is not to take anything at all because you can test positive for drugs just as easily for taking an over the counter remedy as you can for taking steroids.

Sudafed or Pseudo-ephedrine, is an OTC which can cause you to test positive for Amphetamine. Ephedrine can cause you to test positive for amphetamine. This is not surprising, because these are some of the drugs, that are used in making methamphetamine. Next time you test, tell the testers that you have had a cold or flu and used a product containing pseudo-ephedrine. That is what these drugs are used for. They can be used as decongestants. Here in the U.S. Laws have been enacted to make these products harder to obtain, now you must sign for them, most places; and there is a limit on how many boxes you can buy.....*p

Amphetamine is centrally acting stimulant and belongs to narcotics class. It is used as narcotic drug. There are no over the counter drugs which can be tested positive for the Amphetamine. This is tested positive if Amphetamine or other drugs of same class are taken.
