Where I live they drug test you every time you go to the doctors and now after you have the baby every day as long as your in the hospital, its not an option. The excuse they gave me was 'well its a problem we see a lot' and the nurse smirked at me with a very superior look on her face 'well if you havent done anything theres nothing to worry about is there?'. I left the hospital with my baby as soon as I could, I've NEVER felt more insulted in my life. They didn't do that with my first child, and when that nurse tried to take my temp, bp, and check me to see if I was developing a hemeroid or whatever I point blank told her it'd be a cold day in hell before she touched me or my child. I had totally drug free labors both times, not even a damn tylenol! Know your rights! Don't let anyone do anything to you or your baby without your consent.
To see if you have taken drugs!!!!!! The reason being that your baby could suffer from withdrawal symptoms if you have taken them (especially for a long time). So they must know for certain in case there are any complications. Not only you become addicted but your baby as well. Don't take the test as an offence but many people say they don't take anything but it's later discovered they have.

Usually they will test you on admission and then again after birth in case you may have used drugs between the first test and the birth of your baby.
If you did use while pregnant they need to know so they can treat the baby for any complications. You wont be arrested or lose your child.
They test the baby to see if they have illegal stuff in them, as that is a crime with which you can be charged, and the baby would need treatment.
This is a standard test now in hospitals. They need to know if the baby requires special care, so they have to test for drugs. If they didn't and your baby started having withdrawal symptoms, they can be sued.
Because if you were on sert-en drug wall you were pregnant thin the baby can be addicted
They test the baby's urine and feces. If dirty children services will be called and it will not be good.
They might not test you but will definitely test the baby for drugs.
