Antibiotics were a discovery of the last century and completely revolutionised the medical industry and the life expectancy of children and adults, from common diseases and conditions present even today.

Alexander Fleming a scientist, discovered the early form of Penicillin in 1929, by watching a mould grow on agar jelly, a mould that grows naturally on fruit and vegetables, and has been motified to provide today's sophisticated range of antibiotics which prevent premature death and have increased our life expectancy.

Penicillin works by killing off bacteria by weakening their cell walls. This amazing invention is often underplayed in scientific invention and discoveries, yet it enabled us to emerge from the dark ages of plagues and mass deaths and to develop, as we have today, where childbirth and minor infections in our teeth, limbs, digestive and urinary systems no longer spell death as they did before the 1930s. Alexander Fleming made an amazing discovery.
