I don't know if fungus grows on surface I always thought that it grows on skin. I was once told from a doctor that bleach baths are good for cleaning bacteria off the skin. So maybe if you try a couple of capfuls of bleach to a gallon of water and soak your feet it will kill the fungus. Don't share socks and shoes with son.

It's not that useful.  The problem is that you will need 5-10 minutes of contact time and just mopping the floor with bleach won't do it.

What I did to stop a surface (polyethylene floor covering)  from smelling bad was to make a Barbicide solution -- that blue stuff barber shops use.  I wet paper towels with it and laid them down to cover the whole area.  I left it on for 10 minutes and then took them off, wiped with a clean towel, and the problem was gone.
