The length of time that marijuana stays in breast milk will depend on how much you have used recently and your body's metabolism. This is different for everyone.
The main point here is that - quite frankly - you should never be smoking cannabis whilst you are pregnant or breast feeding, anyway. It is irresponsible, selfish and potentially very harmful to an innocent child.

- THC (the active ingredient within marijuana) will be present in a mother's breast milk in quantities anything up to eight times the amount that is in her bloodstream.
- The result of a baby being exposed to large amounts of THC is long-lasting and far-reaching.
- After only one exposure to THC via breast milk, a baby will still be excreting the substance between two to three weeks later.
- The short-term effects of a baby's exposure to THC will cause sedation, poor muscle development and a poor sucking reflex. The THC will also significantly decrease the quality of the breast milk itself.
- Marijuana will cause damage or delay brain development at a stage in the baby's life when brain growth is significant.
- THC isn't the only harmful substance, either, as the tobacco in a joint (and the various impurities and unknown substances within illegal cannabis) will also cause considerable harm to your baby.
