In a situation like this, you need to get checked up by the doctor. There are many different reasons behind why some women have different kinds of periods and, if you have noticed recent changes in your menstruation, you need to get it checked out by a doctor to make sure it is normal. Here are a number of things that could be resulting in your "scanty" periods:

• Stress

Stress can cause your periods to do strange things, even to the extent that, in some women, it can stop them altogether. Stress messes with the body in all different kinds of ways, but the periods are one that it often targets. If you are particularly stressed, you may wish to talk to your doctor about calming techniques or herbal remedies to help you get a good night's rest.

• Food

If you haven't been eating much recently, marking a change in your diet, your periods may begin to change. Cessation of periods is one of the symptoms of diagnosed Anorexia Nervosa, so if you have been spending a lot of time recently not eating, this could be the cause for your strange periods. Eat more food and see what happens.

• Pills and hormones

If you are taking any sort of contraceptive pill, injection or implant, this will affect your periods, at least for a while. The hormones in the contraceptive devices will mess with your natural hormones, creating some imbalances and making you moody more. It will also change your periods, sometimes even removing them altogether. If you are on the pill or any other device, you will either just have to stick it out or change methods. Get it checked out with your doctor, regardless.
