Biological females are born with all the eggs they will have in their life.  Every cycles usually only one egg is matured and released from the Fallopian tubes.  This is ovulation and when a woman can become pregnant.  If the ovulated egg does not get fertilized by a sperm, it goes to the uterus where it breaks down along with the thickened uterine lining.  This is what causes a women's period.
