We need a balanced diet to ensure we are healthy and strong. If we did not have a diet where we didn't receive any of the necessary nutrients and supplements then we would not be healthy.
The array of foods we need is wide as are the nutrients we require to maintain a healthy body. A deficiency in any nutrients can result in your body becoming weak or getting sick. Our bodies and their make up are made of many chemicals and if we don't get replacements for these chemicals we will end up sick.
We get these nutrients through food, drink and if we are short of them through supplements like vitamin tablets.
For example all our bodies rely on protein for muscles, which is found in meat and other foods. If we don't have enough of this we become weak and will suffer and array of problems.
One of the most famous deficiencies was among sailors who travelled the seas during the middle ages. These sailors were lacking in vitamin C, which is used to ensure we have a healthy immune system. These sailors suffered a disease called 'Scurvy' which caused them to be weak and useless for the physical tasks required on a ship. To combat this, sailors were given large amounts of limes when aboard ships. This meant they got enough vitamin C and weren't ill.
This is a severe example of a lack of a balanced diet. People nowadays in the first world who don't have a balanced diet may suffer less drastic short term consequences but people may suffer fatigue or other issues that will mean they are not at their peak.
Get a balanced diet by eating a diet full of all foods including fruits and vegetables.

A balacnced diet is extremely important for our bodies to function properly. If you do not eat a balanced diet then your bodies full capabilities are lessened. Eating an unhealthy diet can cause many harmful conditions such as heart disease.

If you don’t have enough protein, you can’t grow or repair your body properly.
You must eat energy producing foods, you will feel tired.
If you eat too much of energy containing foods, you will become overweight, and that can be reduced from using up the energy and exercising.

Eating a nutritionally balanced diet helps control weight and lessen risk for developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity or kidney disorders. These chronic diseases are a consequence from an over-consumption of fatty meats that raises unhealthy cholesterol levels. Eating too much salt and foods made from refined white flour and white sugar can increase weight gain to unhealthy levels. Eating too few fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and whole grains and low-fat proteins, can result in being malnourished and overweight. Overeating can result and weight gain continues to unhealthy levels.

Our bodies require a well-balanced diet to make sure healthy development and development. The nutrients that the body demands are minerals, fats, nutritional fibre, carbohydrates, protein, water and vitamin. Unbalanced or poor nutrient consumption will end in a feeble body.

You don't need a balanced diet...however if you'd prefer to lead a healthy lifestyle and have your body functioning at it's peak efficiency/performance, you could fuel it with the proper macro/micro nutrients.

There are many different approaches to how your diet should be broken down though...

Some would have it 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat...others 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fat....it really depends on what it is you're trying to accomplish....are you a bodybuilder? Are you a marathon runner? Are you just a regular guy/girl who wants to just be 'fit'?

Regardless, try a diet comprised of mostly veggies, lean meats and a few fruits and nuts here and there and you will feel for yourself the difference a balanced diet makes.

Make sure to add a multi-vitamin and 8 glasses of water/day as well.

Your body needs the proper mixture of vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber, etc. In order for all of your organs to function properly. A well balanced diet will result in good, balanced overall health. Eating too much of one thing and not enough of another isn't recommended, because your body only "needs" a certain amount of any one vitamin or mineral. It will only use a set amount, and the rest goes to waste. 

Meanwhile, you deprive your body of other nutrients it really needs.

Lean proteins, whole grains, green leafy vegetables, fruits, and dairy products all form a foundation of a healthy diet. A balanced diet will provide you with the vitamins, minerals, fats (a small amount of fat is necessary), etc., that someone needs for their body to function properly.

To stay healthy and live a long life :) you wouldnt want to live for a short period . So thats why its essential that people eat a healthy and balanced diet .
