Splinter or blisters can cause pain and infection so it is better to get rid of them as soon as possible. You can try to Milk out the splinter; gently squeeze the side of the splinter with your fingers. You can also numb the splinter by rubbing ice on it, once the pain is numbed you can rub the splinter and completely break it in one go. Once the splinter has been split, apply some antiseptic, or Betadin that way you can save your self from any infection which could have been caused by the splinter.

Keep in mind that if you can't get rid of the splinter in 5 to 10 minutes don't poke around too much as it can lead to tissue damage.
