Can THC be found in sperm?

Yes, it can, but the levels of THC that can be found in sperm are so small that they would not have a knock-on effect on anybody else, whether the person's sexual partner, or an unborn child.

Sperm can hold THC, but not in significant amounts.

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, and is the active ingredient of marijuana.

When taken, THC produces a mild analgesic effect, and this ingredient of the marijuana causes the consumer to feel "high".

IN fact, THC has multiple effects, which include:

  • It causes the user to feel relaxed.
  • Visual effects.
  • Audio and olfactory alterations.
  • Fatigue.
  • Increased appetite.
Although sperm can only hold a slight amount of THC, men who smoke marijuana on a regular basis can do significant damage to their semen.

It has been proven that the sperm of men who regularly smoke cannabis swim too fast, are contained in far less seminal fluid, and are not as high in number.

Tests have shown that sperm that have been exposed to THC swim in a very abnormal fashion - making fertilization of the egg more difficult.
