Can You Go Swimming If You Have Your Period?

You can go swimming if you have your period but only if you have a tampon in.

It is not correct that your flow will stop when you are in water, although it might seem this way when you are laying down in the bath, it is not actually the case.  If you go swimming without a tampon in, you risk blood coming out at some point whilst swimming.

Menstrual blood can definitely still come out so you must make sure that you wear protection which cannot be a sanitary pad as this would simply go soggy and be ineffective, it has to be a tampon to stop any blood coming out.

Of course you can go swimming,
and you don't have to use anything!!!!! Because your flow will stop during the time your in the water but as soon as you get out it should start again so grab your towel and get to the bathroom and change out of your toges and into some clothes with a pad on or tampon but if you were a tampon outside of water you can just use a tampon in the water so theres definately no leakes! Again everything should be fine in the water without using a pad/tampon. I know it works cause I did it and it worke perfectly

Well, from what I know a lot of people say you can't do swimming if your on period. However teachers just say that because their worried that if you feel ill, so its perfectly fine to do swimming if your on period. If your on perid and your swimming no blood will come into the pool because your period stops. However if your not sure or just want to check try it in s bubble bath and see if it works or just wear a tampon and go swimming to see if it happens. =) hope this helps you

Swimming while you have your period is quite harmless in itself, and some people even find that it can help to relieve the cramps. However, there can be associated problems.

Some women, and especially young girls, find that they feel a bit weak during their period, especially the first two days. There are also other symptoms such as headaches, backache, nausea etc. If you have any of these, you should be careful swimming in the sea or at the deep end of the pool - not that swimming will make them any worse, but if you are feeling weak and ill you won't be able to swim strongly, which could be dangerous if you were far out of your depth. Even if you feel fine, few women are 100% at this time, so be careful.

Otherwise there should be no problem. You need to be careful with hygiene, of course, but that's easy enough.

ARE YOU LADIES CRAZY?  What type of Women are answering these questions! Of course you can go swimming when you have your period.  Don't believe me?  Go sit in the bathtub for an hour and see for yourselves.  If you really feel uncomfortable; then wear a tampon, the "soaking" of the water will not affect it's purpose.  Come on now.  I was on the swim-team for my whole life, what do you think I did everytime my Aunt Flo came to visit?

Of course we can. No tampons, no pads, just go in, wear shorts and a tanktop over your bathing suit. Then it leaks if heavy, boo hoo, waa waa. If the ppl your swimming with can't handle it they're just immature babies. Honey, mother nature is just trying to stop you from having fun. Prove her wrong! No body says you can't. The worst you cud get is "ew! Your nasty! How cud you do that on your period!"

just remember one thing. Publicity don't matter. It's having fun that does.

Well once I went swimming on my period, I paid to get in and everything and came on whilst I was changing. It did NOT make the water red or get out of my bikini bottom, I wore sufr shorts over my bikins bottom though. Its like when you go into the bath or the shower, blood dosen't flood everywhere does it? NO.. The water holds in it, but after like an hour or so later it will become quite heavy because all of the blood it held in whist in the swimming pool. I'd say its safe to go in like a day or two before finishing or when its not very heavy. I am in this sutuation at the minute, I have a school trip going to a waterpark on wednsday and my period is due to start in the next few days, so I am wondering what to do.

FYI TO ALL YOU PEOPLE: Your period doesnt stop but clogs up while your in the water yes its unsanitary BUT you can still do it!!! But if I were you I wouldnt because you would have to rush to the bathroom everytime you got out of the water. But yes as I said before you can go into the pool without a pad/tampon it does clog up!

You can go swimming while on your period that is if you wear a tampon because if you wear a pad it will leak in the water, absorb water which will make you swimsuits bottoms weird looking, when you get out of the water you weird. If your going to use a tampon while swimming it won't absorb water because it is inside of you, don't keep it in longer than 6 hours and I would recommend using Playtex Sports while swimming or doing sports

You can. You must wear a tampon though. If you don't the pad could come out and float. I've seen it happen. Or if you don't use either, your period will temporarily stop but I wouldn't take any chances. People that say you can't or you don't have to go with a tampon are ignorant.Go to this site: www.beinggirl.com/
It will let you know everything you need to know. They even have a special section for swimming on your period. -it's at the bottom in the middle. It's kinda small- They even have a place where you can ask your own question. It's free to sign up.
Hope I Helped!!! :)

You can go swimming when you have your period.  Maybe use  a tampon for heavier flows when you swim.  Just remember to take it out and put in a slimmer one after you're done swimming.  If you don't feel comfortable swimming when your friends go to the pool, then bring a book to read poolside.  Your friends should understand.  After all, they get their monthlies, too, you know!!

It's not disturbing, but it's a good question. It is possible that you will " leak " if it's heavy. But you don't really need to wear a tampon. What I did when I had my period, and I was going to go to the pool, was I just wore a swim suit skirt, and I put a pad on the swim suit.It will get wet, but it will keep the blood from touching your swim suit, and the skirt will help cover it up. Just don't swim wildly, like don't go off the diving bored, just kinda stay in one area, andswim slowly.

I know that the period doesnt leak in the water but how fast does it come back once your out of the water? Can I just wear a tampon whilst I'm in the sea and then keep it on afterwards aswell instead of changing (because I have to change infront of everyone else and I don't want to) or wouldnt that work because the tampon would be wet or something??

@ Tinga: You are wrong you can not go swimming without a tampon, water does not stop your menstrual flow, if you do go swimming without a tampon you will still leak and that would be very embarrassing.

You can however go swimming on your period you just have to wear a tampon or a menstrual cup which ever you prefer. If you choose to wear a tampon make sure you insert it right (it can cause discomfort if you don't insert it right) and make sure you change it after you go swimming, if it is hard to come out then it hasn't soaked up enough blood so you can leave it on for a while longer.

Note: Do not use pads to go swimming, it doesn't work and it will end up coming out of your knickers and floating on top of the pool, again embarrassing and unsanitary.

Trust me I know everything when it come to swimming whilst on your period.

Hi I'm 14 and I got my period yesterday... When my pool party is tomorrow. I really don't wear tampons, just pads. What should I do? Its a pool party with all guys and girls at my teacher's house because she picks her favorite class at the end of the year to her house for a huge pool party. I don't want to be the loser just sitting by the bench staring at people and lying that I can't swim so I'm not going to go in the pool. What should I do??

Honestly there really isn't any other way around it i'm afraid. If you want to go in the pool than you'll have to wear a tampon, if it's just for that day then you should go for it. There also is padded bikini bottoms, but the blood can still leak out as soon as you get out of the pool. If i was you i'd start using tampons now, get used to the feel. They're really handy for situations like this and you'll find yourself more relaxed so just see how it goes. Hope this helped xox

Just wear a pad although you may look weird when it swells up so I suggest wearing one of those skirt bottoms so you can't tell as much. Then when you get the chance you may want to put a new pad on if you don't want to walk around with a wet pad. I hoped this helped!

I got my period 5 days ago. This is my second period but the flow is EXTREMELY large and the cramps feel like I got shot in the stomach. My mom got me a few pain killers but I'm worried to use to many.... I don't wear tampons, just pads. I am going to my friends house. She has a creek behind her house and we are going to be sleeping in a tent out back. I'm going to wrap up in an old blanket just incase so I don't leak. I'm wearing black shorts the whole time. We are also going to do a lot of water stuff (swimming, water balloon fight, etc.) I told her I just got my period and she understands. I don't really care about wearing a pad with wings on my swimsuit cause its just going to be me and her and I know she wont care. I'm not so worried about leaking just the cramps. Its weird because I get sudden bursts of hunger and then the next second I feel like I'm going to puke. I told her I'm coming and she is my bestest friend EVER!!! I just got to suck it up. Owwww, I'm getting those cramps again. I'm going to go get some pain killers. Ha, I'm also hungry. LOL

Your mom has probably got a lot of reason why she doesn't want you to use tampon, one could be infection. It sucks sometimes to have your period; however without it you couldn't never become a mom. There are other reason too; like you need these hormones to be a woman. Try to find something else you like to do when everyone else is going to the pool. Have a great time this summer.

You can get in sometimes because sometimes your period agrees with water n it stops when in water. Mine does. But if it doesnt agree. Well... Good luck
n if you want to wear a tampon tell your mom. But change it every 3-4 hours because if on 2 long your blood will get 2 backed up n you can die from a kind of shock. (I 4got what it's called) but when you wear a tampon b careful. I sarted wearing tampons in da pool when I was 12

Well you can't go swimming if you're not going to use a tampon because blood will leak into the water...ewww.
There's nothing wrong with tampons-you don't feel the conciousness you do when wearing a sanitary towel, they don't smell as bad as towels, and it is extremely rare to get an infection. It's called TSS(toxic shock sydrome) and your only really increasing your chances of contracting it if you leave a tampon in for hours and hours and hours.

Well I'm 12 yes old and I have to do a swimming section in my PE class and I don't want to use a tampon because they are uncomfortable and anoying to me so what I do is I wear a one piece swim suit and put press and seal rap around me then a pad and then another layer of press and seal rap so that the pad doesn't get wet. I've tried going swimming withoutht a tampon while on my period and it was so close to leaking down my legs and I had to run to the bathroom really quick. I just told people I felt like I was going to puke. Anyways this method works because I have used it for the past nine days of my swimming section of PE. And I made this method us so please try it if you are wondering how to swim with your period without using a tampon. Oh and your period does not stop while you are in water, I don't know where you got that crazy idea

You can go swimming when you get your period, and it is probably recommended that you do some mild exercises such as swimming to ease cramps and pain due to your period. However you must use a tampon when you enter the water as it is unhygienic to enter the water if you are bleeding.

It's because the flow from a female is not a color that she wants other people to see while she is in the water. Besides, no matter what protection you use in the water, it gets soaked, and so what would the point be to do that. Save yourself some embarrassment, don't go in the water at that time, o.k. Hope this helps.

The blood does stop in the water because of the pressure, but I would never, ever go in without a tampon- even with a pad. All the water goes into a pad and as soon as you get out of the pool the blood will come back. At least with a tampon it will stop the blood flow when you get out, especially with school swimming (we're constantly getting in and out). My first period came the day before my last swimming lesson (pool party), so I had to miss it, sob sob. But this time I wore a tampon and it's fine, we were wearing clothes for personal survival anyway, and if a little does leak clothes will hide it (if you're allowed, wear shorts over your costume). This week we have swimming with no clothes just our costumes so I'm a little nervous whether I will leak, my costume is really high leg but it should hopefully be ok.
And if you're not allowed to use tampons, ask your mum or guardian why, and look on the Internet. A lot of girls wear them and most of them are fine. If you're scared of using them, it's fine, they were made for this job. At first it hurts putting one in and I was terrified, but just relax and it will go in fine. It feels funny but you get used to it. I've never been able to not feel it but I when you know it's there just with no pain it's fine.

Tampon or no tampon you should respect the people who go swimming who don't think people like you are wanting to swim while on a period.
