I would not do it if the orthodontist didn't suggest it, you could mess up the alignment.

I had braces and I wouldnt recommend it..it would probably hurt too much to open your mouth
I have had braces for 3 month now and the orthodontist has doubled the bands up but it did hurt for one day but you get used to them. But I would talk to the orthodontist before you do double the bands up.
