I don't know if you've ever heard that saying 'you are what you eat', but that pretty much sums up the effect that diet has on us.

If we eat things that are bad for us, or if we over-eat, we are likely to become ill.

If we don't eat enough, or if what we eat isn't fueling our body properly- then we will struggle to cope.

How does a bad diet affect us?

These days, the word 'diet' seems only to apply to people who have a problem with over-eating. Whilst this is a genuine issue, there are all sorts of ways that what we eat can have a negative effect on our health.

Here are some examples of the way diet can affect our health:

Eating too much sugar causes:

  • obesity
  • high blood pressure
  • inflammations
  • elevated blood triglycerides

Not getting enough protein causes:
  • Hair loss
  • Weakened immune system
  • Blood and hormone disorders
  • Muscle and growth deficiency

Consuming too many carbohydrates causes:
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • High cholesterol
The effects of a bad diet

Your diet pretty much governs the way your body is able to operate, just as the gas in your car keeps it running. If the body isn't getting what it needs in terms of food, then it simply can't function properly.

This is why having a balanced and healthy diet is so important, it can literally make the difference between life and death!

It can cause obesity or malnourishment, and can lead to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney and liver conditions, bad skin, hair and teeth - and shut down your organs if not getting enough nutrition.
