Would it not be very safe to have sex (even with a condom) right after your period because of the eggs hanging out in your uterus?

No. you're best to go to family planning to get on birth control. It also depends on your age as well. You're best to get physician ( gynecologist advice) a condom is not guaranteed to prevent pregnancy.

When you are young, it's best to get counseling on this about the pros and cons of unplanned pregnancy that can/ can not happen. Many young people are uneducated on how to use a condom and practice safe sex.

During a typical cycle, the woman starts ovulating (which is when she can get pregnant) around Day 14 after she has her period.  As long as you use the condom correctly there is only about a 10% chance of getting pregnant, even if the woman has ovulated.  If you use a condom and think you may not have used it properly or it breaks, slips off, etc... Use emergency contraceptives, like Plan B, as soon as possible for up to 48 hours after it happened.  You should be able to get Plan B at a reproductive clinic or pharmacy.

The safest way to have sex is to use a hormonal contraceptive, like the pill, mini pill, patch, vaginal ring, IUD, shot, or implant prescribed to you by your healthcare provider.  These have much higher success rates at preventing pregnancy.  To prevent STIs (which is just as important) use either a male or female condom in addition during vaginal or anal sex.  It also helps boost pregnancy protection.  During oral sex use a dental dam to prevent STIs.
