I cut my finger with a serrated knife - I applied pressure using the thumb of my other hand for about 5 minutes --- however when I moved my thumb the bleeding continued so I applied a two band aids very tight to make sure the bleeding didn't continue -- it's not bleeding, but now the tip of my finger is turning blue -- because I have it wrapped very tight should I be concerned? How long can I leave it wrapped this way before removing the band aid to apply antiseptic?

To care for a cut finger at home, follow the proceeding instructions. The initial bleeding should be controlled by applying direct, non-stop pressure on the cut for at least five to ten minutes. Then, raise the hand over the level of the heart to help to slow the bleeding down.

If the cut is serious, find if there is any torn tissue, if any, and save it after washing it and place it in a sealed bag. The bag should be put on ice water and carried to the hospital.
The cut should be covered with a clean, dry bandage. if the cut is not too serious, place you finger under running water for around five to ten minutes, and scrub gently with a cloth to extract dirt and grime. Let it dry, and then apply any kind of antibacterial ointment to the cut.
