BMI or Body Mass Index should be taken with a pinch of salt. It was an accepted ratio a few years ago but presently, the medical profession is divided. The body mass index is calculated by weight in kilograms divided by the height of the person (in meters) squared. This is represented as kg/m2. The results can be applied to a wide range of adults. The growth of children can be more erratic due to hormones and other factors and so BMI should not be used to evaluate them.

Caloric intake or the amount a person consumes is also relative. This is related to your lifestyle and your metabolism. The best guide to direct you down this path will be your personal physician.
