So wrong so wrong!
Eating high protein like meat (in moderation) one hour before bedtime is the best you can do!
This boost your metabolism, so it's just good for you. It's proven by a doctor or a bodybuilder, I don't remember, but it's true. Google it, maybe you'll find the paper somewhere!

Protein does not boost your metabolism. Whoever told you that was incorrect.

Good foods to eat before bed are low in sugar and high in fiber(since fiber slows digestion) or diary products, they contain casein, a very slow digesting protein. It should be small and low in calories also- Nick L.

The absolute best food to eat before bed is cottage cheese (1 or 1 1/2 servings). Its very high in casein, which is a slow digesting protien that will keep your metabolism going while you sleep. Peanut Butter is also a good choice.

Almonds, walnuts, and a small glass of non or low fat milk. Sometimes egg whites are good, but not very filling, turkey isn't a bad choice either it is a good protein source and has tryptophan in it to help you sleep ;)

Actually eating right before you go to bed, no matter what you eat, will prevent you from burning any fat while you sleep. Instead of using the stored energy in your fat your body is running on the food you just consumed.

You don't need to eat anything to burn fat while you sleep....Keep in mind, you are in a 8 hour fast each night while you're sleeping.....if you want to burn more fat, one way to do it is by EXTENDING that fast to 14-16 hours by not eating breakfast right away.

This is called intermittent fasting.

I would suggest you try this if you want to burn fat overnight...You could either eat your last meal 6-8 hours before bedtime, or after waking, not eat anything for 6-8 hours.

You COULD have coffee with less than 50 calories worth of milk/sugar, this will not break the fast..

But none of this is going to be of benefit to you if you're not maintaining a caloric deficit.  You need to be taking in less calories then your body needs to maintain it's current weight or this will all be for nothing.

You find this out with this formula: (body weight in lbs x 15)

So if you were 150 pounds, that would be 150x15 = 2,250
calories/day...all you'd have to do is couple the fasting with eating less than this amount to maximize the fat burning benefits of fasting.

Once you get a good diet/exercise  plan that yields fast results, you won't be sweating gimmic'y stuff like how much fat you're burning overnight.

Here's a good one to start with.

You are supposed to eat light food 2 hours before going to bed at night as during the sleep the food in our stomach is hard to digest for the stomach.
