The average height of a 14 year old varies significantly due to different factors. One factor is what gender as girls tend to hit puberty first at the ages of 9 or 10 though some don’t till they are much older. So by the age of 14 they may have already reached their full height. While boys tend not to reach puberty till they are at the age of 12 or even older.
Also height is depended on genetics as many people often grow to about the same height as their mother or father. Though there is no correlation between whether gender of child and gender of parent and the height in which the child grows.
Other factors that can affect the growth of an individual are diet, level of exercise and even type of exercise. Diet is an important factor in growth, if a child’s diet is not filled with the correct amount of nutrients as well as the overall correct amount of food. Protein filled foods are the most important type of food that a child can get as protein is used for growth within the body, helping in growth and repair of cells within the body. Other important food types that children need are carbohydrates as this is what supplies energy to the body which children need to keep them going as they are more physically active than adults.
The level of exercise can affect the growth of a child as those that participate in little amount of exercise as well as having an unhealthy diet can become overweight, which can affect the height of that individual. Also the type of exercise can be damaging to the growth of young children. Children should not do any sort of weight lifting as this can affect the bone development during puberty. Also it has been seen that many young children that train too much in sports such as gymnastics or long distance running can cause growth plate problems due to the impact on the bones due to the movements and surfaces that the sports are performed on.
